Legion Of Mary-Live

When the Grateful Dead went on their hiatus in 1975 Jerry Garcia played about 60 gigs with this band they named Legion Of Mary. The band included Merel Saunders on keyboards who had played with the Dead earlier and Ron Tutt and John Kahn who Jerry had jammed with at The Matrix in 1970. Martin Fiero played sax. This two disc CD was recorded at three venues from Dec. 1974 to July ’75. A wide selection of Motown hits, a Dylan song. The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, and songs by Ray Charles, Allen Toussaint and Chuck Berry. Most of the 14 tracks are ten minutes or longer. Lots of solos on organ, sax and guitar. No Psychedelic solos, Jerrys playing is what you would hear in a Grateful Dead first set.
