Iona-Heaven’s Bright Sun

They are a Christian band from the U.K., named after the island off the coast of Scotland, who play music in the Celtic tradition. This live CD was recorded at venues in England. While using electric guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and sax they also employ tin whistles, flute, Uilleann pipes and cittern. Many of the tracks are instrumental like the Progressive sounding “Flight Of The Wild Goose”. Others are more mellow with synthesizer and sax with more of a New Age sound. Also there is a medley of some traditional reels. Vocals are by Joanne Hogg who has a wonderful voice and also plays keyboards and acoustic guitar. “Treasure” is a great song and one that is on one of my cassette tapes. “I Will Give My Love An Apple” is a traditional song with many different versions. The final track of this 2 CD set from 1997 is a 14 minute atmospheric rendition of the hymn “When I Survey”. Really great playing throughout .
