The Grateful Dead-Three From The Vault

The third release from the vault series. This was set for release in 1993 but was delayed for some reason until 2007. While Dicks Picks were straight from the soundboard the vault releases were multitracked from the soundboard giving them a more polished sound. I had all 36 Dicks Picks and 15 vault releases. I sold them all in 2013 for $500. Somehow this CD wasn’t included. Although CD 1 of this set has been stuck in my Honda Civic for several years I still have disc 2. This is the complete show from Feb. 19 1971 at the Capital Theatre in New Jersey. Ron “Pigpen” McKernan was still in the band but his alcoholism led to his death in 1973. Micky Hart had played his last show the night before rejoining in 1975. This is only the first or second time Grateful dead staples like “Wharf Rat”, “Playing In The Band”, “Bertha”, “Bird Song” and “Deal”. Four of those songs are on this second disk along with a great “The Other One” lasting 16 minutes and an 18 minute “Good Lovin.” with Pigpen doing his thing. He also sounds great on the Bluesy “Easy Wind”. The CD closes with “Casey Jones” sounding much like it dose on their performance on The Closing of the Filmore West record I have recorded six months later. This was released on vinyl in 2015 and I would love to get one.
