A really great release. I originally bought this in 1992 when it was released on cassette. This was when I was living in Philly and played it a lot. Years later sometime in the 2000’s living in West Reading I found this used CD at a store that was in The Promenade Shopping center in Exeter. A band from New York City they play a great mix of Soul Funk and Rock. With wonderful vocals from D.K. (Denise Karen) Dyson and heavy bass with some turntable scratching this sounds a bit like Living Color in some places. Their guitarist Vernon Reid plays guitar on the closing track “World Without End”. Two ballad types “Can’t Live Without Your Love” and “Virgin Heart”, not usually my favorite, also sound good. There is a Velvet Underground Cover (“Venus In Furs”) and a political song(“Don’t Just Say Peace”). The first track “I Ain’t Low” ends with some scratching and some Hip-Hop sampling. My favorites are the more Rocking songs “Easy Goodbye”, “Prisoner In Babylon” and “Down To Zero” but the best of all is “No Promises” with what sounds like some electronic sax, D.K. Dyson’s soulful voice and a guitar solo at the end. A perfect song. Love it every time I hear it. Bernie Worrell plays keyboards on many of the tracks. Only music they put out. Never released on vinyl. Would love to have heard more from this band.
