Download-Furnace

This comes from my collection of Industrial bands which number around 20. Download is a side project of Vancouver’s Skinny Puppy members Cevin Key and Dwayne Goettel. Also in the band is Phillip Western, another Canadian, and Mark Spybey of Dead Voices On Air. Genesis P. Orridge, from industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle, adds “Vocals” to three tracks. From 1995 this CD has a lenticular cover that changes it from a country scene to the city one. Industrial music can be harsh and unmelodic with vocals usually distorted or spoken. Although there are a couple true Industrial tracks many of them are more in the electronic, experimental or Drum and Bass vein. 13 tracks over 74 minutes (the last track is just 50 seconds of noise). First time listening to this one I found it interesting with one of the more mellow tracks “Beehatch” quite good. Goettel died from a heroin overdose before the CD was released and it is dedicated to him. Western died in 2019 from fentanyl poisoning.
