Donna The Buffalo-Live At The American Ballroom

A great Jam Band from the Finger Lakes region of New York. Led by Jeb Puryear on guitar and vocals and Tara Nevins on fiddle, accordion, scrubboard and vocals. Jim Miller was another guitarist and singer but he left around the time of this recording and was never replaced. Drum, bass and keyboard players have changed through the years. Before joining Donna The Buffalo which formed in the early 90’s Tara was in the all girl Country group the Heartbeats. Their music is infused with Zydeco, Americanna, Folk and Grateful Dead style Jamming with some songs lasting 20 plus minutes. A taper friendly band, most of their shows are available on the Live Rock Archives to download and stream. They are constantly on tour playing many festivals each year. One of my favorite bands I have seen them about 20 times. The play at Merlefest every year and I have seen them four times there. I saw them in Raleigh North Carolina on my 50th birthday. One show in Ithica, N.Y., their home turf was at a small bar called Castaways in mid February. Zydeco artists Keith Frank, whose songs Donna The Buffalo will play live sometimes, opened up. The place was packed and it got so hot inside you had to step out in the freezing weather outside to cool off. This CD is one I bought knowing nothing about the band. Loved this CD the first time I played it and saw them the first time at a club in Lancaster. Many of the songs on this 2001 release are still played today. “Tides Of Time”, “Family Picture”, “If You Only Could”, “Ancient Arms” and “Conscious Evolution” have all been played the many times I have seen them. I have three of their studio CDs but like most bands of this genre their live recordings are the best. Would love to get this on vinyl but it has not been released in that format.
