Frank Zappa-You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore Sampler

Another reissue on Zappa Records, originally from 1988. This was a 2020 Record Store Day release. Zappa released six in this series. I had a couple on cassette. Some good selections on here. “Plastic People” from 1969 is sung to the tune of “Louie Louie”. “The Torture Never Stops” is nearly 16 minutes with a nice long jam. Also great solos on “Montana” and “Sharleena”. “Nanook Rubs It” is an 11 minute edit of a 20 minute “Don’t Eat The Yellow Snow” suite. “Dickie’s Such An Asshole” from the early 70’s is about Nixon. “The Evil Prince” is from Thing-Fish with great vocals from Ike Willis and Ray Collins. A recording of “Cosmic Debris” from 1984 closes the album. A great sounding two record set, Bernie Grundman mastered with one red and one yellow translucent vinyl. The gatefold cover has liner notes inside with Zappa commenting on each of the tracks. I picked this up yesterday when I was taking some of my rejects to the store in West Reading to sell. Saw this one for $22. Couldn’t pass it up. This is the last of my Zappa records for now. A talented musician and composer up until his death in 1993 from cancer
