Neil Young-Return To Greendale

After Ragged Glory I bought all his releases on either cassette or CD up to Greendale. Of course they were all sold in 2013. This is a live recording of the album from September 4, 2003 in Toronto. It was released in late 2020 and is a two record set with a gatefold cover. Backed by Crazy Horse with the steady driving rhythm section of Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina with second guitarist Frank Sampedro. There are some background singers including Pegi, his wife at the time, on four of the tracks. The songs are electric with one “Bandit” performed acoustically. It’s kind of a musical about the Green family dealing with the killing of a cop after a traffic stop, invasive media and Neil’s green politics. There are a lot of words and they are printed on the two record sleeves along with liner notes. This is a Neil Young Archives Performance Series release. This is a good record and I like it better than the studio version recorded without Sampedro. The recording sounds good as does the pressing.
