Yes-The Yes Album

Original

Their third album released in February of 1971. A big step up from their earlier two. No more covers or Pop songs. The songs are longer and decidedly Progressive. Peter Banks had left to start his own band Flash and was replaced by Steve Howe who had been in Tomorrow and Bodast. “Your Move” the first part of “I’ve Seen All Good People” was released as a single and I remember hearing it on AM radio early that year. Probably bought the record sometime that summer another one of the earliest records I bought. By that time I had discovered FM radio, first my High School’s radio station then WMMR which was near it on the radio dial. All four of the main tracks , all over six and a half minutes, were played on those stations. “I’ve Seen All Good People”, “Yours Is No Disgrace”, “Perpetual Change” and “Starship Trooper”, one of my all time favorite Yes songs, are all great songs. The two shorter songs “A Venture” has some nice piano by Tony Kaye and Jonn Anderson’s great singing and “The Clap” is an acoustic guitar solo by Steve Howe recorded live. After listening to this record Yes became one of my favorite bands and I bought every record they put out.
