Yes-Time And A Word

This is their second album from 1970. This is another Record Store Day limited release from 2018. It’s a reproduction of the original German release with a different cover with “Dear Father” replacing “The Prophet”. The original U’K’ version had a naked woman on it so the U.S. version had a band photo on it. The photo had Steve Howe on it even though he didn’t play on the record. By the time the photo was taken original guitarist Peter Banks had left the band. It’s pretty confusing because this cover, without the Time And A Word title was used for the U.S. version of their first record. Bought this new record va few years ago. Like their last record it contains two covers from Richie Havens and Steven Stills, “No Experience Necessary” and “Everydays” that I have never heard the originals of. “Clear Days” is another one of Jon Anderson’s Pop songs. “Sweet Dreams” and “Astral Traveller” were songs I recorded off the radio around 1971 on my Sears portable cassette player and are my favorites on the record. The title track is another good song and was played live at some of their concerts. Many of the songs had orchestration added which I don’t care for. Apparently neither did Peter Banks and was one reason he left the band. “Astral Traveller” was the most Progressive sounding song on the record and I can hear some elements of “Starship Trooper” in it and not just the title.
