The XX-I See You

The album is called I See You, but that title appears nowhere on the cover, spine or record label. The silver, somewhat reflective cover has only the X on front band song titles on the back. The record comes with a 4 page insert with lyrics and liner notes on the outside. The two pages on the inside are also silver with the left side having ten lines of written prose both in cursive and regular printing. The words are written backwards. Holding it up to a mirror the last three words are I See You. This is their third record from 2017. Still with the trio of Romy Madely Croft, Jamie Smith, and Oliver Sim. I don’t remember buying this one or even listening to it. More beat and bass heavy with more synthesizers and less guitar than their first record. Also using some samples in some tracks. Much more Dream Pop sounding. It all sounds pretty good. I was pleased to hear “On Hold” on side two. The lead single was released in late 2016 and I remembered hearing on WXPN then. One that I really liked and had forgotten. That will go on my playlist. This proved to be their last release as the members all put out solo albums with Jamie Smith calling himself Jamie xx and doing a lot of producing and DJ work.
