The XX- XX

Another band from London this is their first release from 2009. They play a bass heavy Indie type music with some Electronic and Dream Pop elements with electronic beats by Jamie Smith with simple guitar chords with a lot of reverb. Guitarist Romy Madley Croft adds her voice to bassist Oliver Sim’s for some harmony on some songs and each singing solo on others. Most of the songs are rather low key. “VCR” is one I heard on WXPN around that time and really liked it. only listened to this record once before and thought all songs were good. It has a die cut cover with the X cut out. Of course the points got destroyed with the left one completely ripped off. The record comes with a fold out poster with a white X on one side and lyrics and liner notes on the other. This was the first band we saw at the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee that I went to with my nephew in 2010. He and my wife’s sister, who live in Georgia, were in Delaware for my father-in -laws funeral. My nephew said he would like to go to the festival which was the upcoming weekend and said he would buy my ticket if I drove. I said OK, so we packed my Caravan with a tent, dining fly, sleeping bags, camp stove and table, folding chairs and coolers and headed south. It was quite an experience but I don’t think I would do it again. After the festival was over Monday morning I took him to a bus station and he took a bus back to Georgia.
