Xhol Caravan-Electrip

Xhol Caravan were a German band originally called Soul Caravan who played Pop, Soul and Blues starting around 1966. In 1969 with the release of their second album Electrip they changed their name to Xhol Caravan. Also changing their style, this is an early Krautrock album with lots of trippy Psychedelic and Jazz flavored jamming. Sax and keyboards are the predominate instruments, but flute is added to a couple of songs. Mostly instrumental but there are some vocals in the 17 minute track “Raise Up High”. The first track “Electric Fun Fair” brings to mind what Frank Zappa was playing at the time. “All Green” is my favorite on the record. Besides the five original tracks this reissue has two bonus tracks , the A and B sides of a single “Planet Earth” and “So Down”, a more Blues inspired song. Both have vocals in English. I originally had this on CD but was sold in 2013. In 2022 I found this reissue at a store in Burlington when I was on vacation in Vermont. It’s a numbered limited release of 2000 on the Garden Of Delights label, imported from Germany. The record comes with a 68 page album sized booklet with four pages of the history of the band with an interview of the members, newspaper articles, concert posters and group photos. Unfortunately everything is in German except for the band history and interview which has an English translation. Being a new pressing it doesn’t sound as good as it should. The CD sounded better.
