A band from L.A. who emerged from L.A.’s Punk scene in the late 70’s. The band consists of John Doe on bass and vocals and wife Exene Cervenka on vocals with guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer J.D. Bonebrake. This is their 5th album from 1985 and another one I bought while living in Hull. This is probably my favorite record of theirs, I had four or five on cassette and their next one See How We Are on vinyl but they were all sold. This album is Rock, Alt Country, and a little Punk and Americana. “Burning House Of Love” is a good rocker and got some airplay at the time. I also like “Love Shack” and “Around My Heart” that features Doe and Cervenka harmonizing. “Watch The Sun Go Down” like “Around My Heart” is another slower more Country sounding song while the last track “Supercharged” is another rocker. “All Or Nothing” is a Small Faces cover. In the 90’s I worked with a guy named John Smith (his real name) who lived in L.A. in the early 80’s and was the singer in a Punk band called Autistic Behavior. He can be seen in the background in a scene from The Decline Of Western Civilization, the film about the L.A. Punk scene. He also showed me a VCR tape of his band performing and him talking to Exene at a show. I worked with him and another guy Mike Lala for three or four years. Had some wild times with those guys including a party on the roof of the apartment they lived in with their girlfriends on Broad St. in Philly on January 1st to watch the Mummers parade. They lived across the street from The Boot And Saddle the only Country bar in Philly and frequented by sailors from the Navy Yard. It was a dive back then but it has since been remodeled with regular concerts held there. Getting back to X they put out a record in 2020 after 27 years with the four original members.
