I had heard of Chelsea Wolfe about ten years ago and that she played Electronic Folk and wanted to hear what she sounded like but could not find any of her records anywhere. Then last year I found two at the store in Kutztown. This was a used one from 2017 that looked brand new for $20. Her fifth release, there is not much Folk on this record but there is some electronics and lots of Doom and Sludge Metal. Her singing is kind of whispery like Hope Sandoval’s while the music is decidedly Metal. One song “Vex” even has some growling Death Metal vocals by Aaron Turner. Some songs are more Electronic and Dark Ambient making me think of Black Tape for a Blue Girl. I would even call some of them Avant Garde. First time listening to this one, an interesting record.
