Decided to listen to their first great record as the last of my Wishbone Ash records. This is a used one I bought in the 80’s. It’s an original pressing from 1970 with the rainbow Decca label. Side one has three rocker, “Queen Of Torture”, “Blind Eye” and the great “Lady Whisky”. “Errors Of My Ways” is a more mellow tune with a great guitar solo. The two songs on side two feature their pioneering harmony guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner. “Handy” is an 11 and a half minute instrumental with a couple bass solos by Martin Turner and a short drum solo from Steve Upton. A one point there is a bit of Jazz scat singing. The last song, “Pheonix” is their signature song. At 10 minutes it’s a little shorter than the version on Live Dates but it’s still an awesome Progressive song. Another record over 50 years old that still sounds great. Recorded very loud and produced by Martin Birch. I had to turn the volume down for this one. The band has put out nearly two dozen albums last putting one out in 2020 with Andy Powell the only original member. I had the vinyl copy of the instrumental Nouveau Calls vinyl and a CD of Live In Chicago, which had three songs from Argus, both from the 90’s and sold in 2013. I have 16 digital copies of their records and two box sets.
