Lucinda Williams-Down Where The Spirit Meets The Bone

Album number 11 from Lucinda, this is a three record set with a tri-fold cover. I’ve played record one a couple of times with the single “Burning Bridges” heard on WXPN a few times. When I saw the record at Barnes & Noble I bought it. (I can’t resist a three record set). The first song “Compassion” has lyrics from a poem by her father Miller Williams, a poet and University professor. The title of the record comes from that poem. “Foolishness: on side two is another one I liked. “Something Wicked This Way Comes” owes a lot to Willie Dixon’s “Wang Dang Doodle”. The rest of the songs are good(20 total) with most with a Blues Rock sound. Most feature electric guitar and a few little jams. Ian McLagan of Small Faces/Faces plays keyboards on 5 tracks and Jazz guitarist Bill Frisell is one of six guitarists featured on the album. The record ends with a cover of J.J. Cale’s Magnolia. Love Poco’s cover of it.
