Hank Williams III-Damn Right Rebel Proud

Shelton Hank Williams is the son of Hank Williams Jr. and grandson of Country pioneer Hank Williams. The first song on the record “The Grand Ole Opry(Ain’t So Grand)” is a plea to re-instate his grandfather who was kicked out in 1952 for drunkedness and missing shows. He goes by the name of Hank III and plays in many styles from Country to Death Metal to what he calls Hellbilly music. This is his fourth record from 2008 and is mostly old style Country music although the record is filled with profanity with a “clean” version released to sell in Walmart and other stores. The instrumentation is fiddle, banjo, dobro, acoustic guitar, stand up bass and drums. Marty Stuart (who I saw at one of my Merlefest shows) plays electric guitar on one track. A two record set with a gatefold cover with liner notes inside, the second record has the better songs. “Stoned And Alone” is a slow Country Blues on side three while the three songs on side four are what I played most. P.F.F. which stands for Punch, Fight, Fuck is dedicated to G.G. Allin and is played first in a Rock style then acoustically in a Country style. “3 Shades Of Black” and “Working Man” are also good.
