The Who-Who’s Next

Original

Another one I bought in 1972. In my opinion one of the best albums of all time. Every track is amazing . Most of the songs come from Pete Townshend’s Lifehouse Rock Opera project that never made it to an album. Pretty much every song was played on FM radio then and “Behind Blue Eyes” and an edited version of “Won’t Get Fooled Again” made the U.S. Top 40. In 2003 when Limp Bizkit made a cover of “Behind Blue Eyes”, a young co-worker had to be told it was a cover of a Who song. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” is a 70’s Rock anthem. Always loved the organ and the last line “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss”. “Baba O’Riley” features a violin solo by Dave Arbus of the progressive band East Of Eden with the line “We’re all wasted” something that resonated with us drug users at the time. “My Wife” written by John Entwistle in which he sings ,plays bass, piano and brass is a song many married men can relate to. One reviewer called Entwistle a good songwriter in a band with a great songwriter. I remember “The Song Is Over” playing on the radio a couple of times at work when He died in 2002 from a heart attack. I really like the ARP synthesizer solo in “Bargian”. “Love Ain’t For Keeping” is a short mostly acoustic song that is followed quickly by “My Wife” on the record. “Getting In Tune” and “Going Mobile” the first two songs on side two are also great songs. This is another record I typed the lyrics to, mostly from memory but the record along with the lyrics disappeared a long time ago probably from the Pyle St. house. In 2016 I bought a 2015 reissue at Barnes & Noble. As with a lot of newer releases the sound is very muddled, hardly any bass or drums. There is also lots of crackles, pops, clicks, and other surface noise. Looking for one from the 70’s. Wouldn’t feel good even trying to sell this crap.
