The Who-Meaty, Beaty Big And Bouncy

Original

Another one of the very first records I bought probably in early 1972. A compilation of hit singles from the U.K., the only one I had heard on AM radio at the time was “Pinball Wizard”. Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy were nicknames for members of the band. 14 very good songs. This is another record that I typed the lyrics to the day hurricane Agnes was passing through Wilmington. The 4 typewritten sheets are still there. We had a non electric typewriter on a desk in the living room. I would put the record on in the stereo that was in the dining room listen to the words then go to the typewriter and put down what I remembered. If I couldn’t understand what was being sung I would make up my own words that seemed to fit. No lyrics for “A Legal Matter” and “I’m A Boy”, my two least favorite songs on the record. Following along with the lyrics today they are actually pretty close. That same day I typed lyrics for C.S.N.& Y’s Deja Vu and The Who’s Who’s Next. This record is over 50 years old and still sounds great although some of the early songs are in Mono or fake stereo. No skips and very little surface noise. Many of the records pressed today are just crap.
