Muddy Waters-Fathers And Sons

This is a really great Blues record by Muddy Waters. Recorded and released in 1969 on Chess Records, Muddy is backed by an all-star line-up of players. With Otis Spann on piano, Michael Bloomfield on guitar, Donald “Duck” Dunn on bass, Paul Butterfield on harmonica and Buddy Miles on drums the playing is excellent. Side one was recorded in the studio, side two is live recorded at the Super Cosmic Joy-Scout Jamboree in Chicago. Most songs are by Muddy Waters although there are two by Willie Dixon. On the live record they play Muddy’s “Long Distance Call” the Blues Standard “Baby Please Don’t Go”, Willie Dixon’s “That Same Thing” and “Got My Mojo Working”. The sound of the recording is awesome, even the live material. This is a 1989 reissue, not sure when I bought it, probably in the 90’s, It has a Promo only stamp on the back of the cover. Inside the gatefold cover are updated liner notes written in 1989 lamenting the fact that most of the musicians who played on this record had passed away,( Muddy Waters died in ’83). This ended up being his best selling recprd.
