Uriah Heep-Demons And Wizards

Original

This was my first Uriah Heep album I bought which was in 1972. Another one of my earliest records I probably had no more than fifty or sixty records at that time, so this was played a lot. Love the cover by Roger Dean. By this time original members David Byron, Mick Box and Ken Hensley were joined by new bassist Gary Thain and drummer Lee Kerslake who had been in The Gods with Hensley in the 60’s. This was the classic line-up that would play on their next four records. Demons And Wizards was their break-out album and would become a classic. “Easy Livin'” was a Top 40 hit in the U.S. and I’m sure I heard it on AM radio. “The Wizard” and “Rainbow Demon” were also heard on FM. “Poets Justice” has a great solo by Box. “Circle Of Hands” is another more Progressive track. “Paradise/The Spell is really two songs that seem to have nothing in common either lyrically or musically. “Paradise” is a nice acoustic song I really like that fades out at the end and is taken over by “The Spell” another more Progressive sounding song. This one’s over 50 years old and still sounds great.
