Pat Travers Band-Go For What You Know

A great live album recorded in 1979 mostly in Florida. Canadian guitarist and singer Pat Travers is joined by guitarist Pat Thrall who had earlier been in Automatic Man, drummer Tommy Aldridge who later played with Ozzy and Mars Cowling on bass. A record of Rock, Blues and Boogie with the two guitarists trading licks, Travis more of a Blues style and Thrall more of a Metal sound. All 8 songs are great but the best has to be “Boom Boom(Out Go The Lights)” an old R&B song. This was released as a single and was heard on FM radio. I have a distinct memory of listening to that song on the radio while outside an apartment in the crappy roach infested apartments that I would live in about ten years later. In the Spring of 1979 when I broke of the engagement with the Italian waitress I started hanging out with my friend Jeff, his girlfriend and his girlfriend’s sister. They lived in the apartment with their mother. Their older sister worked at the steakhouse that I worked at for a while with the Italian waitress. Around this time I moved into the house on Pyle St. that was rented by Jeff’s dad. Also staying at the house was Jeff’s sister and younger brother. The dad was a painter and he spent nights at a bar called The Logan House on the corner of what is called Trolley Square in Wilmington. Diagonally across from there was a Greek restaurant called Constantinos that I was working at as a cook. I also worked at a small Italian restaurant The Del Rose Cafe that was two doors down from The Logan house. Anyway one night the four of us, Jeff, his girlfriend, her sister and I were outside on the little porch of the apartment and “Boom Boom” came on the radio. I went inside and cranked it up and we started jumping around and singing it. Funny how some songs remind you of points in your life. Bought this record sometime in the 80’s, sold it in 2013 and bought a used one about ten years ago. A great guitar dominated record.
