Thunderclap Newman-Hollywood Dream

Thunderclap Newman was a trio from England. Originally released in 1970 this is a 1980 reissue. The record was produced by Pete Townshend who also played bass on the record. Townshend was responsible for putting the band together which included Speedy Keen on drums and vocals, Jimmy McCulloch on guitar and Andy Newman playing everything else. This is the only album they put out and a bit of a cult favorite. The single “Something In The Air” was a number one in the U.K. in June of 1969. A pretty well known song now it has been used in many movies and commercials. “Hollywood is played twice first as an acoustic number and later featuring a bevy of instruments played by Newman. The title track is an instrumental. Also notable on the record are “Open The Door, Homer” an obscure Dylan song, “Wild Country” a great rocker and “Accidents”. That song, the last on side one is nearly 10 minutes with lyrics about children’s accidental deaths with instrumental breaks featuring some orchestration and some kazoo playing. The record wasn’t released in the U.S, until 1973 with a different cover than the original which reminded me of the Giles, Giles, and Fripp cover. This is a used one I bought sometime in the 80’s. Pretty scratchy sounding but no other problems.
