They Might Be Giants-Flood

This is the third album from They Might Be Giants. A duo from New York City of John Linnell and John Flansburgh, this record came out in 1990. I bought it around that time because I played it when I lived in Philly. I remember seeing it at a record store, probably the one off Cottman Ave. I would go to. Never heard of the band before, not really sure why I bought the record. 19 songs on this single album with a gatefold cover that has lyrics inside. Kind of an Indie Folk/Rock novelty band they add a good dose of humor to their songs. They have many different styles from the Country of “Lucky Ball & Chain” to the 60’s Psychedelica of “Twisting”. “Birdhouse In Your Soul” and “Someone Keeps Moving My Chair” I have heard on WXPN. “Istanbul( Not Constantinople)” is a novelty song from the 1950’s. “Particle Man” is a song I always liked as is “Hearing Aid” and “We Want A Rock”. “Saphire Bullets Of Pure Love” is the name of a Mahavishnu Orchestra track, not a cover though. I had a CD of theirs, some kind of compilation but it was sold in 2013. Although they continue to put out music, their last recording was from 2021, this remains their best selling album.
