The Tangent-A Place In The Queue

The Tangent are one of the many new Progressive bands that formed in the last 25 years. Formed in England in the early 2000’s by keyboardist and singer Andy Tilson the band has had many different guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboardists, and sax and flute players. I had quite a few CD’s by these bands like The Tangent, Spock’s Beard, The Flower Kings, and Magellan among others but The Tangent was always my favorite. I had three or four of their releases on CD but of course they were bought along with all the other Progressive CD I had in 2013. This is a very nice reissue from 2023 of this 2006 release(their third) on the Music On Vinyl label. It’s a numbered limited edition on translucent green and black swirled vinyl with the usual high gloss gatefold cover. The two record sleeves are also high gloss and feature some Escher drawings and photos. It comes with a four page booklet with lyrics, liner notes and band photos. I don’t think I had a CD of this, at least I don’t remember it. First time playing this record and the pressing is very good, no surface noise. The music is also very good. Two songs “In Ernest” and the title track take up sides one and four. In between are 5 more songs “Lost In London” and “GPS Culture” being the best of them. The short(thrre and a half minutes) “The Sun In My Eyes” is a more Pop sounding track and doesn’t really fit the rest of the record. There are some really great instrumental passages in all these songs combining elements of Yes, Genesis, E.L.P., and Van der Graff Generator. I will definetely want to put this on again.
