Matthew Sweet-Goodfriend

I had five or six of his releases on cassette or CD but never had his Girlfriend record. This was originally a promo only given to fan club members but was released as a two record vinyl edition on Record Store Day 2016. This was a leftover I bought about four years ago at the store in Kutztown. These are live recordings and acoustic home demo recordings of most of the songs from that album plus two covers. All were recorded in 1992. Six were recorded at San Diego State University, two are from BBC sessions, one from Cincinnati, and four demos. The acoustic demos are “Divine Intervention”, “Winona”, “Looking At The Sun” and a cover of John Lennon’s “Isolation”. “Someone To Pull The Trigger” is from his Altered Beast album released the following year. Also included is Neil Young’s much covered “Cortez The Killer” with The Indigo Girls adding backing vocals and strings by Scarlet Rivera(violin) who I knew from Bob Dylan’s Desire album and Jane Scarpantoni(cello) who has guested on many of my records. The cover is a combination of Girlfriend and Neil Young’s Zuma.
