Superchunk is a band from Chapel Hill North Carolina formed in 1989. Another band with a woman as the primary lead singer, Laura Ballance also plays bass. This was a reissue on Record Store Day 2016 of their earlies singles on their own Merge label. I had three or four of their releases on cassette and five on CD, three of which I still have. This is the first vinyl record I bought by them. The record contains 13 songs most of which you would call in the Punk vein. “Train From Kansas City” is a great cover of a B-side by The Shangri-Las from the mid 60’s. “Night Creatures” is a song by The Flys(never heard of them) and they also cover two by Sebadoh. The two I put on my playlist are “The Train From Kansas City” and “Slack Motherfucker” my favorite on the record. I also really like “Garlic” and “Cast Iron” both of which will probably make it on my playlist. The record sleeve has pictures of the covers of the six singles and a live photo of the band, possibly at The Cat’s Cradle, a bar in Chapel Hill.
