Rod Stewart-Every Picture Tells A Story

Original

This is Rod Stewarts masterpiece and one of the best albums of the early 70’s. An amazing collection of Rock, Blues, Soul, and Folk tunes, three written by Rod and five well chosen covers. The title track, first on the record has always been a favorite of mine. The story of someone’s romantic escapades throughout the world. Some of Rod’s best lyrics. This is followed by three covers, “Seems Like A Long Time”, “That’s All Right”, a song recorded by Elvis Presley in the 50’s with a verse of “Amazing Grace” at the end, and “Tomorrow Is A Long Time” an obscure Dylan song. Although side one is awesome side two is even better. “Maggie May” was a huge hit, hitting number one in ’71. Another song that brings back a memory every time I hear it of listening to it on my little AM radio in the dining room of my Grandparents house in West Pittston. “Mandolin Wind” a poignant ballad, along with the records closer Tim Hardin’s “Reason To Believe” shows Rod can sing the softer delicate songs as well as the rockers. “(I Know) I’m Losing You” the Temptations single from 1966 was also released as a single by Rare Earth in 1970. Rod’s is backed by Faces on this one and it’s a great rocking version. Fellow Faces members Ron Wood plays most of the guitar on the album and Ian McLagan adds organ on a couple of tracks. Another one of my earlies record purchases it “disappeared” in 1979. This one is a used one I bought twenty years or so ago. It’s an early pressing with the Gold Record sticker on the cover. The detachable back flap the unfolds into a poster with liner notes on the other side is still attached. The record sounds good.
