This is the record that introduced me to Al Stewart. I began hearing these songs on the radio around ’73 or ’74 the first being “Terminal Eyes”, that I quickly put on one of my tapes. It was followed by two wonderful songs “Roads To Moscow” and “Nostradamus”. All three are on side two. “Roads To Moscow” tells the story of Germany’s invasion of Russia and its aftermath. “Nostradamus” is about the French seer. This 9 minute song quotes lines from his book Les Propheties with a nice long acoustic guitar solo in between two of the verses. Pretty much all acoustic these three songs are among his best. The first song on side on is “Old Admirals” heard occasionally on the radio. The other four follow the same historical themes like “Warren Harding” another one I like and “The Last Day Of June 1934”. This is a 1980 reissue and remaster of the 1973 release. The cover is by Hipgnosis, different from the U.K. issue. I did see him in concert twice, both times as an opening act, once in Wyomissing at the Scottish Rite Cathedral opening for Dave Mason.
