Chris Squire-Fish Out Of Water

Original

This is Chris Squire’s(bass player for Yes) solo album from 1975, the cleverly titled Fish Out Of Water. One I bought in 1975 as soon as I saw it at the record store. With help from Yes bandmates Bil Bruford and Patrick Moraz, and Mel Collins and Jimmy Hastings. A really great record, this has been played many, many times. “Hold Out Your Hand” the first song features Chris’s bass which segues into “You By My Side” a quiet song. The last song on side one is “Silently Falling” with flute by Jimmy Hastings of Caravan. “Lucky Seven” again has heavy bass and Bill Bruford’s distinctive drumming and keyboards by Moraz and sax from Mel Collins formally of King Crimson. The last song the nearly 15 minute “Safe(Cannon Song)” is the most progressive track on the record with some orchestration by The London Symphony Orchestra. This is his only solo album except for a Christmas album released in in 2007. He is the only Yes member to play on every one of their albums until his death in 2015.
