Spirit- Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus

This is the final album with the original line-up. Released in late 1970, the copy I have is a 1973 reissue I bought used about ten years ago. This is probably their best album. Besides the five songs that are on their Best Of collection “Love Has Found A Way”, “When I Touch You”, and “Street Worm” are also very good. A great blend of Psychedelic, Progressive, and Pop music. Disappointed with the poor sales of the record(it ended up being their best selling album but it took about six years) Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes left to form the band Jo Jo Gunn. Andes later joined Firefall. Spirit continued with Randy California and step father Ed Cassidy with other members coming and going. Original members reunited for some shows in 1976. Their last album California Blus was released in late 1996. This featured California, Cassidy, John Locke, Matt Andes(Marks brother) and Matt’s daughter Rachel. A good recording and one I had on CD. The band came to an end when Randy California suffered a death by misadventure when he drowned while surfing in 1997.
