Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation

Hailed by many as a masterpiece this is their best record although I think Dirty comes close. The original 1988 release cassette I had was on Enigma Records. This is a double album gatefold reissue from 2015. Every song on here is great, any of the four sides shows Sonic Youth at their best. The songs are longer with lots of experimental music. “Teen Age Riot” was played on FM stations, one of the few Sonic Youth songs heard on the radio. Followed by the Punk “Silver Rocket” and “The Sprawl” with Kim Gordon “Singing” a few verses followed by a long instrumental jam. “Cross The Breeze” and “Total Trash” on side two have more of Thurston Moore’s unusual guitar tunings “Eric’s Trip” is about LSD. Side three has two great Rock songs “Hey Joni” and “Candle”. In between them is “Providence” an Avant-Garde piece with piano and feedback and someones telephone conversation. Side four has “Kissability” another Kim Gordon song and the record ends with the three part “Trilogy” a 14 minute mostly instrumental song. Truly an amazing record and one of the best from the late 80’s.
