Shovels and Rope are a married couple from South Carolina. I would call their music Alt-Country. Yet another 50% off record from Barnes & Noble although this is a limited edition on red marbled vinyl and signed by the two musicians. It’s a double gatefold album with music on three sides. After listening to it I found that I didn’t like it very much. The music is OK but the songs are very wordy,most telling some kind of story but with too much detail. The only song I really liked was “St. Anne’s Parade” a quieter,slower song with some decent harmony. They have four of five records out,I believe this is their third. This is one I can do without.
