The Rolling Stones-Black And Blue

Original

This is the only Rolling Stones album I had when I was living at home. Bought in 1976 when it was released, one of my favorites. After Mick Taylor left in 1974 the Stones were in the process of auditioning guitarists and three musicians besides Keith Richards played guitar on this album. The first traclk “Hot Stuff” is a great Funky number with American Harvey Mandell playing the solo while another American Wayne Perkins played on “Hand Of Fate” a more traditional Blues based Stones song. The reggae cover “Cherry Oh Baby”” had ex Faces guitarists Ronnie Wood trying out. They decided to keep it an all English band and decided to hire Wood as he had already toured with them in 1975. “Memory Motel” the last song on side one was one I didn’t like much back then, too mellow I guess, but now it is one of my favorite songs on the album. Side two starts off with two great songs “Hey Negrita” again with Ron Wood playing guitar and “Melody” with Billy Preston playing piano and adding vocals with Mick. “Fool To Cry” was the first single from the record and one I still don’t like much today. “Crazy Mama” is another typical Rolling Stones rocker. The production on the record by Mick and Keith is very loud and clear and the record still sounds great after all these years.
