Red House Painters-Old Ramon

Back with his usual bandmates Jerry Vessel and Anthony Koutsos this is the last Red House Painters album. Recorded in 1998 after being dropped by 4AD Mark Kozelek had to shop the record around before it was released on Sub Pop in 2001. 10 songs on two records at almost 72 minutes many are quite lengthy. Like Songs From A Blue Guitar, acoustic songs are balanced by electric songs, most still his usual sad love songs. “Wop-A-Din-Din” is about his cat. “Void” is the one I liked best while “Between Days”,”Cruiser”, and “Smokey” are also good. Mark broke up the band at this point but later with Vessel and Koutsos he formed a new band Sun Kil Moon releasing their first record in 2003. A 2016 reissue.
