Red House Painters-Red House Painters(Rollercoaster)

The first CD I bought from the band and their second release, self titled, and often caller Rollercoaster to avoid confusion with their third album also called Red House Painters. This is another 2015 reissue on vinyl. 14 songs on this true double album at over 74 minutes it is filled with Mark Kozelek’s usual moody songs of pain and loss. “Katy Song”, the third track on the record, is the first Red House Painters song I fell in love with. Dealing with his usual subject of lost love, the song has a repeating fadeout of La La La’s that take up about half of the eight and a half minute song that to me never gets boring. Easily my favorite album of theirs there are many other great songs. “Grace Cathedral Park”,”New Jersey”,”Dragonflies”,”Strawberry Hill” and “Things Mean A Lot” are all some of trheir best songs. There are two versions of “Mistress” one guitar backed and one with piano.
