Quicksilver Messenger Service-Shady Grove

This was released in late 1969. “Shady Grove” is their take on the traditional Appalachain Folk song. A song I taped off the radio back sometime in the early 70’s. Love Nicky Hopkins piano introduction. Hopkins, the English musician joined the band for this album and their next. His piano dominates the sound of this record especially on “Edward(The Mad Shirt Grinder)” his 9 minute instrumental. Gary Duncan one of their guitarists was absent for this recording and a couple of the songs have a country sound. Two quieter songs “Flute Song” and “Flashing Lonesome” are also songs I like. I used to have the original release that had a gatefold cover. This s a 1980 re-issue that does not. It has a price tag that says 3.49 Firm on it. Not something a record store would have on it. Maybe I bought it at a garage sale or flea market,I don’t remember.
