Primal Scream-Screamadelica

A really great album and easily the bands best. I’ts the third release from this Scottish band and came out in 1991. One I bought on cassete back then. This two recrd vinyl re-issue is on red and yellow swirl vinyl. Inspired by the Acid House and Rave scene and the use of LSD the band plays everything from Dance,Soul,Gospell,Electronic,Psychedelic,Dub,Jazz, and Trance to just plain Rock. Using some samples of music and dialog from the films Wild Angels an Paris Texas. Every song seems to be a different genre. “Movin’ On Up” and “Come Together” have a Gospell feel and “Don’t Fight It,Feel It” is a Soul/Disco Dance track with Denise Johnson providing vocals. Their cover of Roky Erickson’s “Slip Inside This House” veers into Psychedelica, changin the chorus of “Slip inside this house to “trip inside this house”. “Damaged” sounds like something from early 70’s Rolling Stones while “Higher Than The Sun(A Dub Symphony In Two Parts)” goes into Jazz territory with some sax. “Loaded” the early single from the album is a Dance/Rock track with samples and Henry Fondas dialog from the ’66 film Wild Angels. “Higher Than The Sun” produced by The Orb has the Ambient/Trance sound of their music. “Shine Like Stars” is a quiet almost lullabye sound to it as it fittingly closes the record. An amazing record and on many peoples list of best records of the 90’s.
