The Pogues-Best Of The Pogues

A Celtic Punk bad led by Shane MacGowan born of Irish parents but raised in England. This best of collection was released in 1991. This is a 2018 re-issue. I had the record If I Should Fall From Grace With God of which “Thousands Are Sailing” and “Fairytale Of New York” were taken. “Fairytale Of New York” has become a Christmas favorite as the song is about someone spending Christmas Eve in a drunk tank. “Dirty Old Town” is another song I knew written by Ewan Mcoll whose daughter Kristy sang a duet with MacGowan on “Fairytale Of New York “The Irish Rover” is a traditional song and all others were written by MacGowan or other members of the band. The songs are all pretty good some definetely Punk others more of a ballad type song.MacGowan was fired from the band in 1991 an started his own band he Popes. He retured to The Pogues in 2001 and participated in a few tours throughout the decade. .
