This album came out in September of 1975. The album was wrapped in black plastic so you couldn’t see the cover and came with a postcard. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” is a tribute to Syd Barrett the former member who was let go because of mental problems. The 26 minute piece is broken into nine parts, I- V on side one and the remainder on side two.”Welcome To The Machine” also on side one has some awesome synthesizer at the end and is about the music industry. “Have A Cigar” sung by English Folkie Roy Harper is another song about the music industry while “Wish You Were Here” is possbly about Syd Barrett again. An amazing lbum right up there with Dark Side Of The Moon. I saw Pink Floyd at the Spectrum in June of ’75 three months before the album was released. I don’t remember if the I had heard anything from the album before then but they played “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” andone other song from the record. The also played two new songs which were early versions of “Dogs” and “Sheep” from Animals. They played the whole Dark Side Of The Moon album and “Echoes” for an encore. When they came back on stage after a brief exit and you heard that first ping of “Echoes” the crowd went crazy. One of the best shows I have been to with lots of lights, fog and a replica of a jet plane flying across the Spectrum, crashing into the wall and bursting into flames at some point during Dark Side Of The Moon.
