This came out in 1971 and the songs from this record were the first music from Pink Floyd I heard. “One Of These Days” and “Fearles”,the A and B sides of the single, were played on WMMR back then and “Echoes” was played on my High School radio staion. I bought the record sometime in ’72 or ’73. Besides the single side one has “A Pillow Of Winds” an acoustic song and “San Tropez”almost a Pop song. The last song “Seamus is an acoustic Blues with the dog Seamus howling along to the music. “Echoes” on side two is a 23 minute masterpiece one of their best songs. Starting with a submarine-like ping the song evolves into a couple of verses before being taken over by a long instumental section with Richard Wright’s organ and David Gilmour’s guitar. Then comes the spooky middle section with what sounds like a dreanged loon and other strange noises. This always makes me think of an amusement park funhouse ride because I have been on a couple of those rides where they played that inside. After that fades out the ping returns and some guitar that I always thouigh sounded like a hellicopter emerging from the mist. After a final verse the song slowly fades out. I saw the film Live At Pompeii in ’73 or ’74 which showed live performances with “Echoes” divided into two parts.
