One of their earlier albums from 1969 this two record gatefold cover has one live record with the other containing 4 pieces each written by the four members of the band. The live album was recorded in June of 1969 and has four songs. Side one starts with “Astronomy Domine” a Syd Barrett song from their first record. “Careful With That Axe, Eugene” is a great instrumental sounding like their later song “One Of These Days” from the Meddle album. Side two has “Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun” and “A Saucer Full Of Secrets” from their second album. The second record has four solo songs, mostly instrumenal. Side three has a piece by Keyboardist Richard Wright in four parts followed by two from Roger Waters “Grantchester Meadows” a mellow song that starts with some nature sounds that continue through the song with two acoustic guitars and Roger singing. That is followed by the longest title of a song I know of “Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave An Grooving With A Pict” which is comprised of strange vocal and percussion noises at different speeds ending with someone with a Scottish accent speaking some unintellagible words. David Gilmour’s “The Narrow Way” has a bit of vocals with various guitar parts. Nick Mason’s contribution “The Grand Vizier’s Garden Party” starts and ends with a flute solo with a drum solo between. I never listened to this record much preferring the live recdord. I bought this sometime in the mid 70’s but sold it in 2013. This is a re-issue from 2016 a replica of the original U.K. release.
