Sally Oldfield-The Collection

Sally is the sister of Mike Oldfield and together they were a Folk duo callked The Sallyangie and put out one record in early 1969.She has a great voice and is able to reach all those high notes in some of those traditional ballads. After lending her voice to Mikes first few albums she put out her first solo album in 1978. This 1985 compilation, from The Collector Series was one I bought used in the late 80’s and is an English import..20 songs on this one all written by Sally. The music could be called Folk,Pop,World,or even New Age music. I never played this a lot but enough to know all the songs on sides 1,2,and 3. Not so much side 4. I always liked this record especially “Mirrors”, a hit in the U.K.,”Water Bearer”,”Mandala”,”My Damsel Heart”,and “Woman Of The Night”.”Path With A Heart” is an instrumental with a choir singing low notes with a synthesizer backing sounding almost Gothic. If you listen to the instrumentation it sounds much like brother Mike’s music. There are no liner notes or credits on this record, except for writer, and is my only complaint of The Collector Series.
