Mythos-Mythos

This is a German Progressive /Krautrock band that formed in 1969. This is their first record from 1971. The record I have is a German re-issue from 1999. A good Krautrock band sounding at times like Ashra Temple,Amon Dull II,Can or Tangerine Dream. The record starts off with a short piece adapted from a longer composition by Handel. The two other songs on the record, both aroud 17 minutes, are divided into two parts. “Oriental Journey/Hero’s Death” starts of sounding like a Raga with sitar and hand drums then turns into alternating spacey electronics and hard rock guitar sections with flute providing the melody throughout. What little vocals there are are in English but singer Stephan Kaske’s voice is not that good ans is hard to understand. “Encyclopedia Terra” takes up side two starting out quiet and slow with some bird sounds and other electronic effects before evolving into harder guitar dominated music. The first part ends with some loud air raid sirens and sounds of war. The second part is quiet again with some bells sounding then back to some heavy guitar. The song ends with a spoken word story based on H.G. Well’s Time machine about a man who goes to sleep and wakes up thousands of years later to find the Earth destroyed by war and pollution. A good example of early 70’s Krautrock. Stephan Kaske played all the instruments except bass and drums and made a couple more records with other people backing him up each time.
