Musica Orbis-To The Listeners

This is a band that came out of Swarthmore College in the mid seventies. Their only record came out in 1977.”Red Wind” was a song I taped of the radio then. It has some cool instrumentation and female vocals and I really liked it. I found the album sometime later, I don’t remember when. It’s was a limited run on their own label Longdivity records. They play a kind of Progressive Folk/Chamber music with flute, harp, marimba, cello, glockenspiel, double bass, drums and piano. There is no guitar on any of the songs. “Red Wind” is on side one, part of three songs called “The Fire Opal Sequence” that also includes “Welcome” and “Samuel”. The last song on side one is “Cataracts” a Jazzy instrumental. I don’t like side two very much except for the last song “Walk Outside” a quiet song with a beautiful melody. They broke up in 1979 with singer and flute player Kitty Brazelton seemingly the only one of the group still performing music.
