Murder By Death-Bitter Drink Bitter Moon

This is a 2012 release I bought knowing nothing about this band, but being on Bloodshot records I knew what it would probably sound like. Bloodshot records caters to bands that play Indie/Americana/Alt-Country/Folk music. I have a 2 CD set from the label called For A Decade Of Sin that features bands on that label. Murder By Death’s music fits right in that genre. Siger Adam Turla’s voice brings to mind Johnny Cash. Maybe the only band I know that has a full time cello player in Sarah Balliet and is heard in most of the songs.. Many of the songs also feature mandolin and accordian. I must admit none of these songs sounded familiar to me but they also sounded pretty good. The ones I liked best were “Lost River”,”Ditch Lilly”, and” Ramblin,”. “Queen Mab” is a nice instrumental with only piano and cello. An interesting band and I may buy another one of their records if I see one.
