Maria Muldaur-Maria Muldaur

Original

Maria married Geoff Muldaur and both were members of The Jim Kweskin Jug Band in the 60’s. After their divorce she went solo and this is her first album from 1973. “Midnight At The Oasis” was a big hit then and a song I liked. Other songs from the record. were played on FM radio back then. I eventually bought the record when I was in High School. A great record,I like her voice which is a little high but seems to adapt to whatever style of music she is singing. She covers many different types of music from Country,Dolly Parton’s “My Tennessee Mountain Home” to 30’s Vaudville “Don’t You Feel My Leg” to New Orleans Jazz,Dr. John’s “Three Dollar Bill”. Some of my favorites are “The Work Song” by Kate McGarrigle and two by Wendy Waldman “Vaudville Man” and the wonderful “Mad Mad Me”. Many talented musicians back her up ,Ry Cooder,David Lindley,Dr.John,Clarence White,Spooner Oldham, and Dave Holland to name a few. I bought one of her CD’s from the 90’s which was a Blues album called Meet Me At Midnight which was OK but doesn’t compare to this one.
