The Muffs-Happy Birthday To Me

This was the third album from The Muffs from 1997 and my copy is a 20th anniversary edition on white vinyl. The liner notes have the three members musing about the recor twenty years later. Kim said it was her favorite Muffs record. Another free one I got from the record store in Temple. He lets you pick a free one,in brown paper bags, whever you buy a Record Store Day album. The Muffs were led by Kim Shattuck who was in the all girl band The Pandoras in the late 80’s. I had one of their records. The Muffs played Garage/Punk music similar to Mudhoney, who I just got done listening to, but with a more Pop sound with lots of hooks. 16 short songs, many under two minutes featuring Kim’s guitar and voice. Also a bit of a screamer like Mudhoney’s Markn Arm. The songs are OK,nothing too memorable excepy “Honeymoon” a great hook laden song that immediatly went on my playlist. Kim has benn in numerous side projects including a reunion of The Pandoras and was in The Pixies for a bit replacing bass player Kim Deal. Kim Shattuck died in 2019 from ALS. The final Muffs album was released that year.
