The Move-The Collection

This record from The Collector Series covers The Move from 1967-1970. The songs are from their first two records plus some singles and live performances. The band was formed in Birmingham England in the mid 60’s by Roy Wood,Bev Bevan,Carl Wayne,Ace Kefford, and Trevor Burton. The band has four lead singers but Roy Wood was the main songwriter and wrote every song on this record except for the covers which are many. They had five hit singles in the U.K. all on this record but were unnoticed in the U.S. The earlier songs were British Pop sounding like The Beatles or the Who on songs like “Night Of Fear”,”I Can Hear The Grass Grow”,and “Blackberry Way”. “Brontosaurus”,an early 1070 hit had a heavier sound. There are some great re-worked covers ,some live at The Marquis Club in London,The Byrds “So You Want To Be A Rock And Roll Star”,”Sunshine Help Me” the Spooky Tooth song written by Gary Wright, Tom Paxton’s “The Last Thing On My Mind” with a stoned out Psychedelic guitar solo in the middle,an instrumental of “Don’t Make My Baby Blue” a Mann/Weil song played on what sounds like an electric sitar. There is even a cover of the 30’s hit “Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart” done in a Do-Wop style. “Cherry Blossom Clinic Revisited” has some Classical bits in the middle. “Fields Of People” is a song I taped off the radio in the early 70’s and never knew who recorded it. I always thought it sounded like The Beatles but knew it wasn’t them. When I bought this record in the late 80’s I was pleased to find that song on it. As usual a great collection of 24 songs totaling over 100 minutes of music. Another Import made in Germany.
